56 Happy Couples?

As of today, 56 couples in Deschutes County have become 'hitched' through the new domestic partnership law. The process begins by knowing the link to the website to download the form (which is below). Be advised: you'll need 8 1/2" by 14" paper to print this form onto (not kidding). After that, it's off to the notary. Don't sign your application until you are in front of the notary by the way.

No notary is available to you at the Clerk's office, but your bank will likely notarize your paperwork for free. Yahoo! You'll save some of that cash in notary fees so that you can pay $55.00 to the county. They will reward your efforts with a blank certificate of 'domestic partnership'. It's blank so that you can have it filled out at a ceremony. I was surprised that it was blank, and worried that I might be a 'second class citizen' until my pal said she and her husband's were blank too. So i'll wait to find someone good handwriting to fill it out.

The rest of the story: apparently, the clerk's office (1300 NW Wall Street, Suite 200, Bend) is dead early Friday afternoons. Shoot for then. We had no waiting anywhere. Don't forget the extra $3.75 to have the great seal of the county of Deschutes put on your photocopy of of the form so that you can prove to folks everywhere that you are legit.
